Route 6 and I-195 carry us most of the way

Most calls toward New Bedford run out along Route 6 or I-195, past the same mix of mill buildings and post-war housing that lines the corridor on both ends. Tiverton calls run the other direction, over the state line and across the Sakonnet River near the old Stone Bridge crossing, into a town with a very different relationship to open water than either Fall River or New Bedford has.

New Bedford's working waterfront shapes its roofs

Tiverton sits on the Rhode Island side of the Sakonnet River, and the stretch of homes near Tiverton Four Corners and down toward the water gets wind off open water in almost the same pattern Westport does across the state line, just from a slightly different angle depending on where a property sits relative to the river bend. Capes and colonials built before the 1970s are common here, many with the original chimney and a roof that has already been re-covered at least once.

Homes set back from the water along the inland stretch of Route 77 see far less of that direct exposure and tend to hold a shingle roof several years longer than a place with a water view.

A handful of Tiverton properties along the water carry flood zone requirements that never come up on a typical Fall River job, and those get confirmed with the town before any tear off date gets scheduled.

Whichever town a job is in, the same walk of the roof and the attic happens before a number gets written down, because a building permit and an inspector's expectations differ slightly from one town hall to the next but the physics of a coastal roof does not. A cricket behind a chimney matters the same amount whether the address is in Fall River, New Bedford or Tiverton.

What does change town to town is the paperwork: New Bedford and Tiverton each run their own permitting process and inspection schedule, separate from Fall River's, and that gets confirmed before a start date is set rather than assumed to match what the crew is used to at home.
